The natural ageing process isn’t the only culprit to thinning lips, and there could be many reasons why someone might be considering a lip fillers.
The pollution of London living can have a devastating effect on the skin, long days and late nights, smoking, sun exposure and weight loss can all affect the lips, and we have a lot to contend with when living, working and socialising in the big smoke. The lips can indeed thin and wrinkle with age too, and from his clinic in Harley Street, one of London’s most famous and well-respected cosmetic doctors, Dr Dan Dhunna offers lip rejuvenation using FDA-approved, high-spec dermal fillers.
A lot of Dr Dan’s London lip filler patients do worry about having a natural-looking result. Getting a natural lip filler look takes time, patience and skill.
What exactly are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable substances which lift, plump, volumise and re-structure the skin. They contain hyaluronic acid, which is a Godsend for ageing, dehydrated and wrinkled skin tissues. Dermal fillers should only be used by medically-trained experts. Unfortunately, however, the use of dermal fillers is still not regulated in the UK, although due to many un-trained, non-medics using them and making some dreadful mistakes, causing physical and medical issues for some unsuspecting patience, we hope that the day will soon come where non-medical practitioners such as beauty therapists will not legally be allowed to administer dermal fillers or indeed, any injectable treatment.
Dr Dan Dhunna is a medical cosmetic doctor and has all the qualifications and experience required to administer dermal fillers. From his clinic in the heart of London’s West End, as well as his many other clinics around the UK, he has performed over 50,000 injectable treatments, so you know that you will be receiving a professional, safe and quality treatment for superbly natural-looking, beautiful results. When injected correctly and safely, dermal fillers can subtly enhance the lips for more pout, a pleasing shape and rehydrate the skin.
He always aims to provide natural lip fillers.
Will I look like a duck if I have lip fillers?
As Dr Dan Dhunna is one of London’s top cosmetic doctors and a discerning facial artist, he will refuse to offer that ‘duck’ look that so many young girls and some TV personalities end up with.
This look is synonymous with a practitioner’s lack of experience, understanding and respect for the existing facial anatomy of the patient. A dermal filler lip treatment should be administered using extensive skill, state-of-the-art materials and innovative and learned techniques developed in the many years that dermal fillers have been available.
Fortunately, Dr Dan Dhunna can offer a significant improvement without the duck look, product migration, lumping or lips that are disproportionate to the patient’s face due to his extensive training and unlimited research in the art of injection techniques, facial anatomy and cosmetic artistry.
I have fine lines around my mouth, and I don’t want lots of filler!
Many of our London-based patients who wish for skin rejuvenation – not a noticeable change to the size or shape of their lips – say this to us. However, the ageing process can cause the lips to lose volume and areas such as the Cupid’s bow and philtrum can become flatter and less pronounced, forming a less attractive side profile.
The upper cutaneous lip lengthens during the ageing process, and repetitive muscle movement around the lips can cause those fine lines and deeper wrinkles and sun exposure, and smoking.
To reduce those fine lines and rejuvenate and enhance the lips, Dr Dan Dhunna will need to replace volume slightly by injecting dermal fillers directly into the lip area. However, using an FDA-Approved, Allergan product called Juvéderm Volbella will hydrate the area and not over-fill or plump up the lips. This will guarantee a subtle outcome and smoother skin appearance in this area.
Can I hide the fact I have had dermal fillers in my lips?
As many of our London patients want an extremely subtle treatment and are too busy for downtime or side effects, we must advise sensibly and respectfully that a dermal filler treatment can come with some swelling and bruising.
Therefore, if you really are concerned about not revealing your lips until they are settled and recovered, you may wish to take a few days respite from public life or the office. Mineral makeup can cover slight bruises, but swelling can take a day to 3 days to subside, so perhaps the best day to have your dermal filler lip treatment would be a Thursday or Friday, so you can take the weekend to recover, looking your best for the week ahead.
Ice packs, arnica and drinking lots of water, as well as avoiding hot baths, steam rooms, saunas, and excessive exercise for a week after your dermal filler treatment can all help to reduce the likelihood of extensive bruising and swelling.
Dr Dan Dhunna is also a master of the cannula, a blunt-ended needle that is more commonly used for lip filler treatments. A cannula will glide past veins and blood vessels, unlike traditional needles, so the risks of bruising and extensive swelling are further reduced with his treatment methods.
When will I see the results?
Results can be seen immediately, as the dermal filler will sit between the skin tissues, lifting and augmenting them.
However, expect the full results to be seen at around two weeks post-procedure. Around this time, the product would have settled, any swelling or bruises would have disappeared entirely, and you will be able to return to the clinic for any tweaks or top-up treatments. Results can last anything from 4 to 12 months, depending on your lifestyle and your body’s metabolism of the product.
Dermal fillers for the lips have become one of the most sought treatments for Londoners and patients all around the UK. Ensuring that you have your treatment with a world-class medical professional such as Dr Dan Dhunna will ensure a safe treatment with beautiful, lasting results.
