Cosmetic treatments for men

It’s official! Men age as much as women do! (obviously)

cosmetic treatments for menAnd in recent years, at Dr Dan Dhunna’s many clinics across the Midlands and South of the UK, we have been seeing more and more male patients approach him to ask about the kind of treatments they could have that a) are effective, b) won’t make them look unnatural and c) offer very little to no side-effects or downtime. After all, it’s still seen, rightly or wrongly, as more acceptable for a woman to discuss the ‘work’ she may have had done than it is for a man. This means lengthy recovery times and apparent bruising, stitches or bandages are probably going to be a ‘no-no’ for most guys when it comes to a cosmetic process.

Fortunately, with modern injection techniques, effective topical anaesthetics and new and innovative technologies, a man can improve his looks without it being a big deal, unbearably painful or too apparent that some ‘work’ has been done!

Botox® (wrinkle-smoothing injections) for men

Most of us have heard of or experienced Botox® injections at least once. We are getting more inquiries about this treatment from men, partly because their wives or girlfriends are having the treatment. They have seen the great results it can achieve and want in on the action, or because they have heard of it from friends, colleagues, through the media or on TV. Social media has been a key platform for raising the awareness of cosmetic treatments, and most of us men are more likely to choose a treatment they have seen prove effective on others for our peace of mind.

Botox® is, in fact, the brand name for a substance called Botulinum Toxin Type A. This neurotoxin has been used in medicine since the 1970s for various medical purposes, including eye spasms, migraines, muscle spasms in children and bladder problems.

Otherwise known as wrinkle-relaxing injections or wrinkle-smoothing injections, Botox® temporarily blocks the nerve signals to the facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles and expression lines. The results can last up to 6 months at a time.

Botox® is quick to administer – if you’re a fully-trained medical professional as is Dr Dan Dhunna. The treatment offers minimal discomfort and little-to-no cosmetic downtime, although a few patients can experience temporary minor side-effects, such as a headache or mild flu-like symptoms, slight bruising and small injection bumps, which fade in around 30 minutes after treatment.

Botox® can be safely injected, using the finest of needles, into areas such as:

  • The forehead
  • Crow’s feet (the wrinkles around the corners of the eyes)
  • Glabellar lines (the lines between your eyebrows)
  • A cobbled chin
  • The jawline
  • A downturned mouth
  • Neck bands/lines
  • Masseter muscles (for jawline slimming/teeth grinding)

Dermal fillers for men

Versatile, safe, innovative and highly effective, dermal fillers are superb at treating a myriad of facial concerns, from lifting sagging skin to re-structuring the nasal area, dermal fillers can plump the skin, fill out hollows, hydrate skin cells, re-contour and re-build facial areas.

Dermal fillers consist of a substance called hyaluronic acid, and this depletes rather rapidly as time takes its toll. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar in our bodies, responsible for cushioning and hydration. Injections containing the substance offer very few side effects, if any, as our bodies recognise it. Hyaluronic acid can come in a very viscous, thick and structurally supporting dermal filler or a very fluid, liquid, skin-saving one. Depending on your facial concerns and anatomy, Dr Dan Dhunna will use his many years’ experience to decide which of his FDA-approved range of dermal fillers to use and will advise you on the best course of treatment to suit.

Dermal fillers can treat a myriad of facial concerns, such as:

  • Deep-set, static wrinkles (lines that you see when your face is at rest)
  • Hollowing of the temples and cheeks
  • Under-eye bags
  • A weak chin or jawline
  • A misshapen or asymmetrical nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty)
  • A saggng lower face/jowls
  • Thin, ageing lips
  • Full face lifting without surgery

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and dermal airbrushing for men

Do you like the idea of using your natural substances to revitalise your skin? Platelet-rich plasma could be the ideal solution.

PRP is a cutting-edge, innovative and revolutionary skin rejuvenation procedure, which triggers the body’s own tissue regeneration. It proves highly effective for acne scars, skin healing and overall skin quality improvement.

PRP works by taking a sample of your blood, spinning this sample in a specially manufactured centrifuged and extracting the separated plasma from the blood. This plasma contains growth factors. These growth factors are instrumental in the healing of the tissues by the formation of new blood capillaries and collagen production within the skin.

PRP is used in many types of medicine to regenerate damaged tissues and is widely recognised in sports medicine, orthopaedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and dental and cardiac surgery. PRP has even been clinically proven to assist with hair rejuvenation of the scalp and face (eyebrows), reduce dark circles under the eyes, and improve the skin tone, texture, and quality on all areas of the face.

Dermal Airbrushing™ for men

A technique, exclusively developed by Dr Dan Dhunna, Dermal Airbrushing™ encapsulates the healing benefits of PRP rejuvenation therapy and combines this with clinically-proven treatments such as hyaluronic acid and a cocktail of vitamins and amino acids, to offer your skin a refined, restructured and rejuvenated appearance.

Dermal Airbrushing™ utilises the Dermapen, a medical microneedling device that creates tiny injuries to the skin itself, encouraging skin healing and collagen production. With the added power of the substances used in Dermal Airbrushing™, this combination treatment offers better skin rejuvenation, scar reduction, increased skin hydration and a firmer, more even complexion.

Dermal Airbrushing™ can be used for the following concerns:

  • Overall skin rejuvenation
  • Superficial wrinkles around the eyes
  • Smoker’s lines and wrinkles around the mouth
  • Neck and décolletage revitalisation
  • Acne scars and stretch marks
  • Dark under-eye circles
  • Hair regeneration on Scalp
  • Eyebrow regeneration

With the newest and most state-of-the-art techniques, FDA-approved substances and Dr Dan Dhunna’s expertise in performing over 25,000 injectable treatments, growing older doesn’t have to be the modern man’s burden, and we can look just as good as our female counterparts without giving the game away.

A subtle change can make a world of difference. In a no-obligation consultation, Dr Dan Dhunna will create a bespoke treatment in a discreet and professional setting so that you can be confident that you can achieve a fresher, more rested, wide-awake appearance without major surgery or lengthy recovery times.
